I always location scout for every wedding I shoot. I like to find something different and I like to know exactly where I will be shooting. Sometimes I turn it into an adventure for my kids and I take them with me to hunt for the 'perfect light'. As we were hunting in the Swan Valley for that perfect light in the week leading up to Ben and Nichola's wedding, my seven-year-old son declared in surprise after only being in the car for 20 minutes "Hey, this is like we're in the country, I like it here." There is a sense of calm in the Swan Valley, an old-world rustic charm that proffers the perfect soft, dewey light over vineyards and paddocks as the sun sets. Nichola and Ben's ceremony and reception took place at the Riverbank Winery, at the end of a dirt road, perched on a hill with sweeping views of vineyards and horses frolicking in paddocks below.
