Carlie and Nick wedding – Xanadu Winery Margaret River

The biggest and brightest full moon of the year shone down on Carlie and Nick’s wedding beside the vineyards at Xanadu Winery. Margaret River at this time of year is always special, with the last golden leaves lingering on the vines, warm open fireplaces and a bottle or two of red with good friends. It really is the perfect place for a wedding.

Moores Art Gallery wedding – Maeve and Phil

Maeve and Phil’s wedding was a photographer’s dream – lots of beautiful light diffused by teasing, swirling clouds that failed to comply with the weatherman’s forecast of rain. The Fremantle Doctor failed to show too, leaving ladies’ hair pristinely intact and the Swan River as still and shiny as glass at the couple’s Point Walter ceremony. Normally I search for the good light for the hour of photo shoots I usually take after the ceremony – on this day we could go anywhere! And afterwards, over bubbles and wine and the never failing, sumptuous food,by the Moore and Moore cafe, friends and family of the gorgeous couple danced and chatted beside Batman and Robin and other superheroes that formed the much talked about art exhibition by artist Michael O’Connell, adorning the walls at the reception’s delightfully quirky Fremantle Moores Art Gallery.

Mark and Teresa – Blue Water Grill

I’ve only shot a couple of morning weddings in Perth before. Most weddings in Australia start in the late afternoon and swing on into the wee hours of the night. In the UK however, morning ceremonies followed by a  lunch reception are the norm and Mark and Teresa’s wedding reminded me how much I used to love going to an English wedding luncheon with good food, wine and friends to celebrate. Perched  up on Heathcote Reserve with panoramic views of the Swan River and City at the Bluewater Grill, Mark and Teresa’s reception was an idyllic laid back afternoon with friends and family.

Angela and Pete – Exmouth wedding

I first went to Exmouth  on a road trip with a group of friends when I was about 21. It took us five days to get there, while dodging kangaroos and emus along the way, and frequently stopping for dives into the shimmering azure sea that always beckoned to us on the long straight road. But it’s this remoteness that makes Exmouth so stunning. The scenery is untouched, rugged and raw. An ocean with water so clear, pure white sandy beaches with your footprints often the only ones in sight. I’ve seen turtles lay their eggs on the beaches here, I’ve swum with fish and discovered an under water world of brightly coloured corals and fish I didn’t know existed. So when Ange and Pete flew me up to photograph their wedding at Exmouth I was really excited to be heading back and to photograph this gorgeous couple in the town they now call home. They treated their guests to a feast of unforgettable scenery with their ceremony held against  a breathtaking backdrop of turquoise water and silky white sands at the aptly named Turquoise Bay, and then organised for them to be taken 60km by bus  (just-round-the-corner distance in Exmouth), past incredible gorges and mountain ranges to their reception at the very stylish Novotel Ningaloo. I loved every minute of being there – thank you Ange and Pete!

Wedding in the City of Lights

Perth City is often overlooked as a location for weddings – it doesn’t have the wow factor of a big city and it doesn’t have much in the way of iconic architecture. But I think this is what makes it such a great location and is part of its charm. Nestled in between the office buildings along St George’s Tce, Jo and Rob found the perfect location for their ceremony in the beautiful and tranquil gardens of Council House. Without the hum drum of big city traffic and crowds, we were able to wonder afterwards without much fuss through some of Perth’s quaint laneways and buildings for photographs. The reception was held in the courtyard of the grand and historical Bishops House, Lamonts, cocooned beneath the skyscrapers and a slice of moon – a little know secret hidden within the City of Lights.
